For the last 50 years, Ultraman has been one of Japan's most iconic heroes.
Now, a new iteration is coming to Netflix with a brand new anime series.
The new adoption will be animated in CGI by Production I.G., the company known for The End of Evangelion. Kamiyama of Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Shinji Aramaki of Appleseed Alpha are both on board to direct the new series.
The new Ultraman series will adapt the manga by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shiguchi - a sequel to the classic Ultraman live-action TV show. It centers around Shinjiro Hayata, the son of original hero Shin Hayata, and takes place several decades after Shin saved the world.
When a new alien threat emerges, Shinjiro will discover that he inherited his father’s powers and responsibilities as he takes up the role of Ultraman to save the planet once more.
