Review: DC Comics - Shazam! #1

Get Ready To Enter A Magical World!

This week sees the release of a new series from DC Comics superstar Geoff Johns! Shazam! recounts the origin story of young orphan Billy Batson, who is given the gift of superpowers from an ancient wizard.- the last remaining resident of the Rock Of Eternity.

Bestowing upon him the power of the gods, Billy Batson is transformed into Earth's Mightiest Mortal, the heroic Shazam! However, Billy won't keep these powers to himself, but look to share them with his foster family - and transforming them into Philadelphia's own Lightning League - well, at least for now.

But, while they're trying to figure out what to call themselves, Billy and his foster family will be protecting the innocent from the forces of injustice whenever possible - even during a particularly boring field trip to a local museum.

However, the fun and games may not last for Billy and his friends after his father comes to town looking to reconnect with his son - just as the young hero uncovers some brand new mysteries surrounding the once thought dormant Rock Of Eternity!

The debut issue of Shazam! is the perfect book to enjoy this season! Brimming with charm and a childlike innocence, this is Geoff Johns at his finest as he effortlessly updates an iconic hero for a new generation of fans! At the same time, the art of Dale Eaglesham is on point, perfectly capturing the magic laden world of Billy Batson and the Shazam family!

In short, Shazam! is a winner in every sense of the word, and we couldn't be happier to see Mr. Johns back on another truly exciting title from DC Comics!

Rating: 5/5 - "A magical adventure brimming with charm and childlike innocence!"

Shazam! #1 lands on newsstands today.

Until next time, Infinite Earths fans!
