The Twilight Zone Renewed For Season 2

Get ready to enter The Twilight Zone.

CBS All Access has renewed the Jordan Peele series for Season 2.

The show is a reboot of the classic Rod Serling anthology series, and has starred such big names as John Cho, Seth Rogan, Chris O'Dowd, Adam Scott and Steven Yeun.

When the series debuted on April 1st, it drove the highest level of unique viewers ever on a premiere day for a CBS All Access original series, according to the streamer.

The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Kinberg’s Genre Films. Peele and Kinberg serve as executive producers along with Win Rosenfeld, Audrey Chon, Glen Morgan, Carol Serling and Rick Berg.

The Twilight Zone originally premiered in 1959, and quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. Since then, the show has been revived twice more - once in the 80's, and the early 2000's.

Mothra Getting North American Blu-Ray Release

Mill Creek Entertainment has announced that they will be releasing the 1961 monster movie classic Mothra on Blue-Ray here in North America for the first time in history.

The gorgeous steelbook edition will include both the U.S. theatrical cut of the film, plus the extended Japanese version. It will also come packed with special features ranging from feature-length commentary with authors and Japanese sci-fi historians Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski, trailers, and a photo gallery.

"We are excited to offer Mothra on Blu-ray as a gorgeous steelbook release," said Barrett Evans, VP of marketing for Mill Creek Entertainment, in a statement.  "The timing is ideal to present the original Mothra as new audiences will soon see the iconic character in the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters movie."

Mothra was produced by Tomoyuki Tanaka, directed by Ishiro Honda, with SFX directed by Eiji Tsuburaya - the same team that created the original Godzilla feature film.

In Mothra, following reports of human life on Infant Island, the supposedly deserted site of atomic bomb tests, an international expedition to the heavily-radiated island discovers a native tribe and tiny twin female fairies called “Shobijin” who guard a sacred egg. The overzealous expedition leader kidnaps the Shobijin to exhibit in a Tokyo stage show but soon they summon their protector, hatching the egg and releasing a giant caterpillar. Mothra finally transforms into the ultimate beast, impervious to modern weapons.

The film stars Emi Ito, Yumi Ito, Hiroshi Koizumi, Jerry Ito, Kyoko Kagawa and Frankie Sakai. It is currently available for pre-order now, and will arrive on July 9th.

Will you be adding Mothra to your home video library this summer?

The First PlayStation 5 Details Are Here

Sony is already preparing for the launch of their next gaming console.

Speaking with Wired, PlayStation 4 lead system architect Mark Cerny discussed the first details for the highly anticipated next generation video game system.

Although cautious not to name the new console, which many feel will most likely go by the PlayStation 5, Cerny did say that the new system will be based in part on PS4 architecture, which has the added benefit of making it backwards compatible, allowing it to play games made for the current PlayStation 4. The reason behind this? A gentle transition to the next generation - so much so that gamers may find multiple titles released across both platforms.

And yes, Sony's new console will still use physical media.

The next PlayStation will also feature a solid-state drive, customized to take advantage of the hardware specs. This takes the place of a traditional hard-disk drive, which is slower, louder, and less power-efficient than SSDs. This will result in much better performance for the system.

The hardware also houses an AMD chip with a CPU based on the third-generation Ryzen, and eight cores of the seven-nanometer Zen 2 microchip. The GPU is based on the Radeon's Navi line. This is said to be capable of supporting 8K resolution and specialized features like ray tracing. The AMD chip will also enable 3D audio.

During the chat, Cerny also assured that VR is very important to Sony's future gaming plans and noted that the current PSVR headset is compatible with the new console.

Sadly, a release date and pricing are still a mystery right now.

Back in 2018, head of PlayStation John Kodera said the next PlayStation was roughly three years away, putting it sometime in 2021. However, with Cerny opening up about system hardware, perhaps the timeline for the next generation gaming system has shuffled a bit.

In any case, it's clear things are coming along nicely, with Sony clearly hammering away in the hopes of unleashing their next PlayStation upon gamers soon enough. Here's hoping we'll be getting some more details from the manufacturer this coming June at E3.

Sonic The Hedgehog Trailer Speeds Online

Paramount Pictures has released the first official trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog.

An adaptation of the hugely popular SEGA video game franchise, the movie features Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular Blue Blur and Jim Carrey as the vile Dr. Robotnik.

Check out the trailer posted in the player below...

Okay, so first thoughts.

While it looks like a movie straight out of 1992, we do believe Carrey is in a position to possibly pull off a pretty good villain. In addition, Sonic does look a little better than we initially thought. Sure, it's probably going to have more than a little cringe-worthy humor, but we're more than willing to check this one out come the Fall - and not write it off based solely on the first trailer.

Sonic The Hedgehog James Marsden and is directed by Jeff Fowler.

Look for it to speed into theatres this coming November.

There Will Not Be A New Switch At E3

Nintendo has shot down rumors that a new Switch console will debut at E3.

"As a general rule, we’re always working on new hardware and we will announce it when we are able to sell it,"  company CEO Shuntaro Furukawa said during today’s earnings call, "but we have no plans to announce that at this year’s E3 in June."

E3 will kick off this year on June 11th.

Multiple ramblings online have claimed that Nintendo could be bringing as many as two variants on the Nintendo Switch to the gaming event this year. One such item is said to be a cheaper version of the mainline Switch console however, given Shuntaro Furukawa's words today, this really doesn't seem like it's all that likely at this point in time.

The aforementioned console is said to be smaller than the regular Switch, one that will focus on portability, and will cut some features to bring the price down.

No further details are available at this time, although some reports have claimed that this scaled back Nintendo could arrive later this year - perhaps as early as June.

Again, this is all speculation and, given the above comments, nothing more.

What are you hoping to see from Nintendo at this year's E3?
