New Image of Masterpiece Soundwave Released

Shogo Hasui, a member of the Takara-Tomy Transformers design team, has shared a new image of the upcoming Masterpiece Soundwave figure along with the Masterpiece series cassettes - Buzzsaw, Frenzy, Laserbeak, Ravage and Rumble.

This is the first time the entire group has been photographed together, and I must admit, I have not been this excited for a Masterpiece release since Masterpiece Grimlock from back in 2010.

If you're looking to pre-order these awesome figures, you can do so at the links below.

Disney Aquires LucasFilm - 3 New Films Planned

That's right! In what was perhaps some of the biggest news of the last 24-hours, the Walt Disney Corporation has purchased LucasFilm LTD. from George Lucas for a cool $4-billion!

Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas," said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. "This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney's unique and unparallelled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value."

Here is what Mr. Lucas had to say on the subject: "For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next," said George Lucas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm. "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."

Under the deal, which was made up of a combination of both cash and 40-million shares, Disney will require ownership of LucasFilm LTD. The company will also acquire the substantial portfolio of cutting-edge entertainment technologies that have kept audiences enthralled for many years. Lucasfilm,  located in San Francisco, operates under the names Lucasfilm Ltd., LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, and the present intent is for Lucasfilm employees to remain in their current locations.
Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairmen of LucasFilm, will operate as president of the company, reporting directly to Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. She will also serve as the brand manager for Star Wars, working directly with Disney's global lines of business to build, further integrate, and maximize the value of this global franchise. Ms. Kennedy will also serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.
George Lucas' legendary Star Wars films have flourished for over 35-years, generating a total of $4.4 billion in the global box office to date, and continued global demand has made Star Wars one of the world's top product brands, and Lucasfilm a leading product licensor in the United States in 2011.
The Lucasfilm acquisition follows Disney's very successful acquisition of Marvel, which was also purchased for around $4-billion.  Adding Lucasfilm to Disney's portfolio of world class brands significantly enhances the company's ability to serve consumers with a broad variety of the world's highest-quality content and to create additional long-term value for their shareholders.

The Boards of Directors of Disney and Lucasfilm have approved the transaction and the agreement approved by the sole shareholder of Lucasfilm. The press conference concluded by saying a total of 3 new Star Wars films are in the early stages of development, with the first slated for a 3D release in 2015.

Will this new trilogy be based on Timothy Zhan's Thrawn Trilogy? Not according to a source over at LucasFilm, who just recently announced the next Star Wars trilogy will be based off an original story. Also, contrary to some stories floating around cyberspace today, no director has been attached to the new films as of right now.
More on this exciting story as it develops!

The Fwoosh: First Look - DCIE Uncle Sam & Doll Man

The Fwoosh has another first look up for DC Fan's today - DCIE Uncle Sam with Doll Man! Being released in November through Mattel's mail away club, Uncle Sam and Doll Man kick off another classic, and much wanted, team in 6-inch scale - The Freedom Fighters!

Making Uncle Sam the first Freedom Fighter to be released in the line makes total sense on the part of Mattel, what with him being the leader and all, hopefully we'll see more Freedom Fighters released in the line over the next little while.

The figure, for the most part, is made up from parts taken from past DCUC figures -  Gentlemen Ghost and Joker, with some new pieces thrown in to make him the character he is.

The red and blue paint is crisp and bright, however, the same can't really be said for the white used on the costume. It doesn't appear as bright and is slightly more gray-ish than it should be. The figure's hands aren't sculpted into fists, as they perhaps should be, but open hands. However, although it wouldn't have been surprising to see Uncle Sam packed with a 1:12 scale American flag, he is packaged without accessories.

Regardless, this figure looks great, and his face and head sculpt really capture the essence of the classic character. His face is full of personality and, the longer hair and beard visage, reminds me of the characters appearance in Infinite Crisis.

Although he doesn't come with any accessories, Uncle Sam does come packed with a second Freedom Fighter member - Dollman. He is small, but not as small as the tiny Elasti-Girl figure included with Mattel's DCIE October offering. Although Doll Man features no articulation, his paint is nicely applied and he really fits in well with the larger Uncle Sam figure.

Another win from Mattel! It seems like only yesterday I'd gotten an e-mail from Matty showing the figure off to those that signed up on their mailing list, and now, he'll be hitting mail box's in a little over a month!

Look for Uncle Sam and Doll Man, along with John Constantine if memory serves me correctly, to be arriving in mail box's in November!

Transformers: Beast Hunters Laserback Revealed

Seems as though Predaking isn't the only Predacon gunning for the Autobots next year! Feast your eyes on Laserback, the second Predacon revealed for this Springs Transformers: Beast Hunters toyline!

Laserback seems to take some design ques from both the Transformers Prime and Movie-Verse toy series that have come before him. He incorporates some amazing paint work as well. The red, purple, black and yellow mix to result in a figure that not only screams Predacon, but is also generally pleasing to look at as well, something that doesn't happen as often as it should in today's toy market.

His alt mode is that of a dragon, like his leader Predaking. Does this mean that all the Transformers in this new faction will be taking on alternate modes based off dragons? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Created in Deluxe scale, Laserback's robot mode features a wrist-mounted laser cannon and, what appears to be, some sort of axe. In dragon mode, both weapons are incorporated well into the sculpt, the axe forming the creature's tail and the laser stored, where else, on the back.

Although it may still be too early to tell, Laserback seems to be a very neat looking little figure for next year's Beast Hunter line. His robot mode is well proportioned, features a neat mixture of colours and comes armed to the teeth. The dragon mode, on the other hand, just looks down right awesome with its high-backed spikes, clawed feet and robotic head sculpt.

Only time will tell how awesome Laserback proves to be, but for now, he'll at least be looked forward to with eager expectations, I've no doubt, from many a Transformers fan!

Thanks to the Transformers Facebook page and Daniel Moore for the photos!

AFI Reveals Early Look at DCIE Lead

AFI has some awesome shots of DCIE Lead, the final oversized figure from Mattel's DCIE mail away club for 2012!

Lead is built using the Collect-and-Connect Darkseid buck from DC Universe Classics Wave 12, which may seem a little large for the character, but actually appears to work quite well for the figure, considering it was really the best option open to Mattel without creating an entirely new sculpt.

He doesn't feature the diecast hands or clip-on accessories of the previous Metal Men offered throughout the lines run, which is somewhat disappointing. His tunic is a rubber over piece which is shapped more like a bib then skirt, allowing the character to retain all his articulation.

DCIE subscribers should expect Lead to be hitting mail boxes this December, whereas those who did not subscribe can order him directly off!
