Marvel Announces New Guardians of the Galaxy Comic

It wasn't too long ago that fans wondered if Marvel Studios had bitten off a little more than they could chew when they announced a Guardians of the Galaxy movie for August 2014. Well, those concerns have all past as Star-Lord, Drax, Groot and the others had a hugely successful time at the box office in a way many never thought possible.

Now, Marvel has announced a new, ongoing Guardians of the Galaxy comic that will adapt episodes of the upcoming animated series. Entitled Marvel Universe: Guardians of the Galaxy, the new comic will be written and lettered by Joe Caramagna and will feature artwork pulled from episodes of the show.

The comic will feature the same core cast as the film - Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

This is just the latest ongoing comic to feature members of the Guardians. Already this year Marvel has launched spinoffs for both Rocket Raccoon and Star-Lord, as well as the 31st Century-focused Guardians 3000. A Gamora solo series from the film's screenwriter, Nicole Perlman, is also slated to launch in 2015.

There's no firm release date for Marvel Universe: Guardians of the Galaxy yet. The show itself is slated to debut sometime in 2015 on Disney XD, so chances are that the comic will follow shortly after that.
