Gal Gadot will soon suit up as Diana Prince once again for Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman.
The fourth chapter of the DC Expanded Universe is currently on track to exceed $100-Million in its first weekend at the box office, with estimates placing the exact total somewhere between $105-$115-Million. Granted, this is much smaller than the $166-Million opening of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice and the $133-Million of Suicide Squad, however sources close to production claim that Warner Bros. is shooting for any result over $100-Million. This would put Wonder Woman above many recent Marvel Studios releases outside of the month of May.
Should the movie achieve this, it would top the previous openings of Doctor Strange ($85-Million), Guardians Of The Galaxy ($94-Million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95-Million). Additionally, a $115-Million opening would put the movie on the same level as the launch of Man Of Steel from back in 2013. This would be a major triumph for both Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment - especially considering that the film is fronted by a female superhero portrayed by relative newcomer Gal Gadot.
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Elena Anaya and Lucy Davis, Wonder Woman arrives in theatres on June 2nd.
