The next DC Animated Original Movie has been revealed to be an adaption of Brian Augustyn's 1989 Elseworlds tale, Gotham By Gaslight. The Victorian era story sees Bruce Wayne as a vigilante-detective investigating the serial killer known as Jack the Ripper.
The news was unveiled in a list of special features set to be included on the home video release of the upcoming animated feature, Batman And Harley Quinn.
Gotham By Gaslight is considered to be the very first Elseworlds story spawned by DC Comics. It featured art by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, and would even get a sequel entitled Master Of The Future in 1991. Augustyn would also write the sequel.
In an age of mystery and superstition, how would the people of Gotham react to a weird creature of the night, a bat-garbed vigilante feared by the guilty and the innocent alike? The very first Elseworlds tale re-imagines the Dark Knight detective in Victorian times and pits him against the infamous murderer Jack the Ripper.
If you're excited for a first look at Batman: Gotham By Gaslight, be sure to check out the next DC Animated Original Movie, Batman And Harley Quinn, on August 29th.
