Andy Muschietti To Direct Robotech For Sony

Director Andy Muschietti has signed on to direct the Robotech movie over at Sony.

The story is set in a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology of an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific island and is now using that technology to fight off an impending alien invasion.

Barbara Muschietti will produce the film alongside Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton, based off of the classic 1980'd cartoon series from Harmony Gold USA and Tatsunoko Productions.

Robotech has been lingering in development hell over the last few years, despite attracting the likes of James Wan and Leonardo DiCaprio, and the studio is really hoping that Andy Muschietti will finally be able to push the project into production.

The Mama helmer recently replaced Cary Fukunaga as director on the Warner Bros. adaption of Stephen King's It, which has quickly become one of most anticipated movies of the Fall season.
