Matt Reeves' War For The Planet Of The Apes won the war at the weekend box office.
The third entry in the rebooted franchise took in $56-Million from 4,022 theatrical locations across North America, narrowly topping the $54.8-Million debut of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, which opened back in the summer of 2011.
Internationally, the movie took in an additional $46-Million from 61 overseas markets including The United Kingdom, Russia and Spain. While these numbers are lower than initially expected, the tally was sufficient enough to win the weekend box office and knock Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming into second place. The superhero flick incurred a 61% drop between this weekend and last, bringing in an additional $45.2-Million domestically.
War For The Planet Of The Apes currently enjoys a 94% fresh rating over on Rotten Tomatoes.
