Gru and his legion of Minions are inching ever closer to $100-Million at the North American box office. Despicable Me 3 dominated the long weekend box office with an additional $13-Million raked in over Independence Day, bringing its North American total up to $99.4-Million.
Over the course of the three-day weekend, the animated sequel grossed $72.4-Million, earning it the best showing of the year to date for an animated film.
Back in 2013, Despicable Me 2 also launched over the July long weekend, where it grossed $83.5-Million. The Minions spinoff, which opened in 2015, would open to a massive $115.7-Million during the July 10th - 12th weekend.
Rounding out the Top 5 for the long weekend box office were Edgar Wright's Baby Driver at #2, Wonder Woman at #3, Transformers: The Last Knight in fourth and Cars 3 in fifth.
