Pixar CCO John Lasseter is stepping down as director of the highly anticipated fourth Toy Story. Lasseter helmed two of the three past films in the series, now opting to serve as an executive producer on the new film.
Instead, Josh Cooley and Jonas Rivera will serve as co-directors on the new film which is written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. The announcement was made at the D23 Expo yesterday in Anaheim, California.
Lasseter confirmed that the next movie will pick up eight years after the end of Toy Story 3 and see the toys living with Bonnie. In the film, Woody and Buzz setting out on an epic journey to find Bo Peep, whom Woody loves.
Toy Story 4 opens June 21st 2019 and features the returning voice talents of Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and Annie Potts as Bo Peep.
