Early this morning, Disney announced that they had purchased several assets from 21st Century Fox, thus giving the studio over numerous comic book characters including the Fantastic Four, X-Men and everyone's favorite Merc With A Mouth - Deadpool.
But, some may wonder what this means for future Deadpool films. After all, these movies are known fir having an R rating, something that Disney is not known to dabble in. Does the recent acquisition of Fox mean that Wade Wilson will now be kidded down a bit to suit the House Of Mouse?
Not according to Bob Iger.
During a media call earlier today, the Disney chairman assured listeners that Deadpool can stay R-rated at Disney, if the branding is right.
"It [Deadpool] clearly has been and will be Marvel branded. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool," said Iger. "As long as we let the audiences know what's coming, we think we can manage that fine."
Fox has had big success over the past two years with R-rated Marvel movies. In 2016, Deadpool became the top-grossing X-Men movie of all time with $783-Million worldwide, while Logan scored similar success earlier this year with a worldwide box office run of $616-Million.
So, it sounds as though fans of the raunchy Marvel Mutant can rest easy, Disney doesn't look to be dialling back Wade Wilson with their new acquisition. And that's a very good thing.
However, we can't imagine this'll sit well with Captain America...
