Star Trek Discovery executive producer Alex Kurtzman has been tapped to direct the show's upcoming Season 2 premiere. Production kicks off in Toronto next month.
Season 2 will pick up right where Season 1 left off. After bringing the Federation-Klingon war to a non-violent conclusion, the crew of the USS Discovery sets off from Earth to Vulcan, but stops along the way to answer a distress call from the USS Enterprise. The finale’s closing shot sets up a likely meeting between the Discovery’s Commander Michael Burnham and Captain Christopher Pike, who commanded the Enterprise prior to the time of James T. Kirk.
Previously, Kurtzman told Variety that Season 2 of Star Trek Discovery will also address questions regarding the relationship between Burnham and Spock - both of whom were raised together accord g to a backstory revealed back in Season 1.
Kurtzman co-created the series with Bryan Fuller.
Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts serve as executive producers and showrunners.
Kurtzman, who also co-wrote such films as Star Trek, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Transformers and Mission Impossible III, is currently enjoying an overall deal with CBS Television Studios.
No premiere date for Season 2 of Star Trek Discovery has been set at this time.
