Review: Teen Titans: Season 1: Episode 8 - Deep Six

Today, we continue our look at Season 1 of Teen Titans with a review of one of our most favorite episodes of the entire series - the swashbuckling adventure entitled Deep Six.

Starring: Scott Menville, Greg Cipes, Tara Strong, Hynden Walch, Khary Payton, Clancy Brown, Wil Wheaton, and Dave Coulier.

A number of ships off the coast are being attacked by an unknown creature. This results in the Teen Titans heading out to investigate the mystery and meeting a new hero named Aqualad.

Unfortunately, Beast Boy isn't the biggest fan of Aqualad, and the two begin a rivalry that sees them competing every chance they get. The same cannot be said for Raven and Starfire, as the two heroines find themselves head over heels in love with their new ally.

Later on, onboard the T-Ship, the Titans find themselves attacked from all directions by Trident, a frightening sea creature who appears to be able to appear in many places at once. While they're able to escape, the T-Ship gets damaged, but Aqualad leads the heroes to his underwater lair. Here, Aqualad offers to help fix the sub and aid them in their search for their assailant - Trident.

Beast Boy and Aqualad head out on patrol and end up getting separated in a cave. Here, Trident engages both heroes - losing to them both. Upon reuniting, both Aqualad and Beast Boy claim to have fought Trident even though they were both in different places. This leads Beast Boy to suggest that there may be more than one Trident, but Aqualad scoffs at the idea.

As the search continues, the heroes discover cocoons of Trident hanging from the ceiling of another cave. The duplicates hatch and converge upon the Titans, but Beast Boy deduces that the best way to neutralize this threat is to pit them against one another. This leads to the heroes asking the creatures which one of them is the best. Since there can only be one perfect version, the Trident clones begin fighting amongst themselves. Aqualad and Beast Boy take this opportunity to flee, but are cut off by a newly hatched batch of Trident clones.

It is then that the rest of the Teen Titans show up aboard their newly repaired sub and use missiles to collapse the mouth of the cave and trap all the creatures deep inside.

With their foe trapped, Aqualad and the Titans return to the surface, where Robin presents their new ally with Titans Communicator and making him an honorary member of the team.

As we said above, Deep Six is our most favorite episodes of the entire Teen Titans series. It features an engaging plot, all-star guests, loads of underwater action, and so much more!

What's not to love about this one?

Rating: 5/5 - "A swashbuckling underseas adventure featuring an all-star cast, this one skews to the serious side of things to become one of the best Teen Titans episodes ever."

Until next time, Infinite Earths fans!
