Whew, that was another close one!
Five days after word broke that Amazon had entered talks to pick up The Expanse, the streaming service has officially revived the science fiction favorite for a fourth season.
CEO Jeff Bezos made the announcement Friday at the National Space Society.
"We couldn’t be more excited that The Expanse is going to continue on Amazon Prime! We are deeply grateful that Jeff Bezos, [new Amazon Studios head] Jen Salke, and their team at Amazon have shown such faith in our show," said Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. "We also want to thank Laura Lancaster, head of Alcon Television for her tireless efforts. We are fully aware that this wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the staggering outpouring of support from the most creative, hardest working sci-fi fans around the world. From reddit campaigns to airplanes, we say thank you. It worked!”
Earlier this month, Syfy announced that they would not be picking up the show after its current season ends next month - much to the dire disappointment of fans.
Based on James S.A. Corey's best-selling book series of the same name, the science fiction series recently kicked off its third season and transported viewers to a future where humanity had successfully colonized the solar system. Thomas Jane, Steven Strait, Wes Chatham, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Dominique Tipper all star.
It is one of a handful of shows to be saved from the brink of extermination earlier this month.
