The Merc With A Mouth is King Of The Box Office.
Debuting this weekend in numerous markets around the world, David Leitch's Deadpool 2 finished off its weekend with an estimated $301-Million worldwide.
Here in North America, the film was on track for somewhere around $133-Million, but ended up finishing the weekend with $125-Million, just shy of the $132-Million brought in by the Tim Miller original back in February of 2016. Meanwhile, overseas the X-Men spinoff brought in an additional $176-Million, bringing its worldwide total up to $301-Million.
The first Deadpool movie debuted to $264-Million worldwide.
The film has already broken a few records since being released last week, bringing in $53.3-Million on Friday and a record-setting $18.6-Million from Thursday previews. It also enjoyed the widest theatrical launch in history for a 20th Century Fox film.
Additionally, Deadpool 2 has also become Fox International’s biggest opening of all time, beating out the $174-Million brought in by X-Men: Days of Future Past, and earned the biggest opening ever for an R-rated film, surpassing the $160-Million from Logan early last year.
After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
The upcoming sequel reunites Ryan Reynolds, as the titular Merc With A Mouth, with Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, and Karan Soni as Dopinder. Joining the regulars are newcomers Josh Brolin as Cable, and Zazie Beetz as Domino.
Deadpool 2 is in theatres now.
