While he may not be playing Batman, actor Jake Gyllenhaal could still be entering the field of comic book movies in the very near future - as part of Spider-Man: Homecoming 2.
According to Deadline, Gyllenhaal is currently in talks to portray the villainous Mysterio opposite Tom Holland in the Sony Pictures sequel from director Jon Watts.
No official plot details are available at this time.
The character first debuted back in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #13 back in June of 1964. Known as Quentin Beck, the villain is a special effects wizard and stunt man working for a major Hollywood studio with dreams of making a name for himself in the film industry. Mysterio is known for his bubble-headed appearance, and for being a master of illusion and deception.
No further details on the talks are available for the time being.
Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 opens on July 5th, 2019.
