A new DC TV crossover is coming to The CW next season - and it'll be introducing the character of Batwoman to the television universe for the very first time in history.
Arrow star Stephen Amell broke the news today during the network's Upfronts presentation.
"We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be doing another crossover event this fall on the CW, and we’ll be introducing a new character,” Amell said. “For the very first time appearing, we’ll be fighting alongside Batwoman, which is terrific. The crossover is going to make it to air in December. I need to leave right now and start filming it."
First introduced in the pages of Detective Comics back in 1956, Batwoman is Kate Kane, one of several vigilantes who protect Gotham City alongside The Batman. The character has appeared in animated form on Batman: The Brave And The Bold and Batman: Bad Blood, but this will mark the very first time that Batwoman has made a live-action appearance.
"We are adding the city of Gotham into the Arrowverse," CW boss Mark Pedowitz added. "This will be another full-throttled, action-packed event."
The shows of the DC TV Universe have been teasing the existence of Gotham City and its famed protector since the beginning. However, the biggest hint came on Arrow earlier this season when Oliver Queen, then the mayor of Star City, name-dropped Bruce Wayne while being questioned about whether or not he was the Green Arrow.
