Review: Action Lab - Jupiter Jet: Volume 1

Welcome to Olympic Heights, a bustling metropolis run by conniving landlords, crooked cops and one seriously bad dude named Praetor Pluto. But, not to worry fine citizens, Jupiter Jet is here, and she's ready to save the day!

The first volume of Jason Inman and Ashley V. Robinson's expertly crafted period piece hits newsstands this coming Wednesday, kicking off a fun-filled adventure that calls to mind some of the great science fiction serials of the 40's and 50's.

It follows a young girl named Jacky Johnson who uses a mysterious jetpack to steal from the rich and give the poor - this despite the fact that her father is dead and that she and her brother Chuck can barely keep the doors open at the family auto repair shop.

Still, Jacky puts her friends and neighbors ahead of herself, and when she snags some stolen loot from one of Praetor Pluto's goons, she becomes the unsuspecting target of the villain's wrath. Which is especially bad when the brute may not even be of this world!

And so begins a fantastic tale of adventure and intrigue that sees a young sixteen year old girl discovering her destiny as the fearless Jupiter Jet. However, it won't all be smooth sailing as Jacky and Chuck must face everything from faulty equipment to near death experiences, relentless robots to getting the rent paid on time.

Oh yeah, and let's not forget feeding the cat!

Jupiter Jet was a book that we just could not put down. And, whether it was the charming pseudo-1940's setting, or the golden age science fiction feel of the plot, it was without a doubt, the single most charming graphic novel we've read this year. Add to that the gorgeous art courtesy of Ben Matsuya and Jorge Coron, and you've got something that is so truly unique and colorful that you'll want to pick it up and rejoin the adventure again and again!

The premiere volume of Jupiter Jet is a fantastic story with a jaw-dropping twist that you won't see coming! A beautifully crafted fairy tale that will have you truly believing a girl really can fly!

Congratulations to Jason, Ashley and all those involved in the birthing of this fun-filled piece of science fiction splendor. You've really given fans something truly special! Granted, our review may seem somewhat over the top, but the debut book just left us so damn jubilant that this is exactly the way we feel about the first volume of Jupiter Jet!

Honestly, we haven't had this much fun with a book since Flashpoint.

With all the bleakness present in the world today, we need a story like Jupiter Jet now more than ever before, and the fiery redhead is sure to have you grinning from ear to ear. The book is bright, brilliant and easily belongs on any comic collector's shelf. Whether you're a fan of superheroes, science fiction or just a good read, you need to head on over to your local comic shop this week and pick up a copy of Jupiter Jet: Volume 1.

Trust us, you'll be really glad that you did! It's essential reading this summer season!

Rating: 5/5 - "One part Rocketeer, one part Robin Hood, this high-flying throwback is the very definition of fun!"
