Mattel Brings DC Exclusives To Comic Con

Mattel will be transforming some classic DC Comics moments into San Diego Comic Con exclusives this summer. Hot Wheels DC Superman Action Comics No. 1 and DC Comics Multiverse Aquaman Between Two Dooms Figures 3-Pack are among the toy company’s big reveals ahead of the famed pop culture convention this year.

The Hot Wheels DC Superman Action Comics No. 1 set transforms a classic DC Comics cover into a collectible diorama that looks like a slabbed copy of the 1938 comic.

This set will sell for $20 at the Mattel booth.

Aquaman will also be making an appearance at the show this year with the DC Comics Multiverse Aquaman Between Two Dooms Figures 3-Pack. A premium exclusive aimed at collectors, this set recreates the cover of 1962's Aquaman #35 and features 6" plastic renditions of Aquaman, Black Manta and Ocean Master respectively. Each figure features a selection of character specific accessories, 23 points of articulation, retro styling and interchangeable hands.

The figures also come in some very cool collectible packaging.

This set will sell for $60.

We've no doubt both if these exclusives will be a hit with DC Comics fans this year - especially given that the Aquaman set is being released at the same show set to feature the very first trailer for James Wan's Aquaman movie over in Hall H. Way to capitalize on hype, Mattel!

San Diego Comic Con is being held from July 19th - 22nd.

Review: Dynamite - James Bond: The Body #6

 Bond Is Back!

The exciting final issue of James Bond: The Body arrives on newsstands tomorrow, bringing the six month mission to a close with a trip to a small pub back in the United Kingdom.

It is here that the MI6 golden boy meets up with an old friend in the form of CIA Agent Felix Lieter. As the pair sit at the bar downing pints and eating breakfast, they each recount their recent missions against the mysterious Prince organization - the same company responsible for putting the hit out on Bond while trying to unleash a deadly virus upon an unsuspecting world.

However, while this briefing seems to point to the mission finally having reached its end, we soon discover that there is just one more loose end to tie up in the form of a loose-lipped information broker selling vital details in a dark corner of the bustling bar. As the man prepares to leave however, he suddenly suffers a fatal heart attack and dies - something that both James Bond and Felix Lieter were clearly expecting to happen.

After the mess is cleaned up, the men return to their meals, satisfied at having been successful in sending a powerful message to the people of the Prince organization - "It is unwise to attempt such things as these." As they eat, Felix takes a moment to inform Bond that his doctor friend is doing quite well following her run-in with his would be assassin, continuing to enjoy a quiet and peaceful life up in the mountains.

A life that Bond envies oh so very much.

James Bond: The Body comes to a close in a most satisfying way, bringing the six month mission to a close and solidifying itself as one of the very best 007 comic books that we've had the privilege of reading in a very long time.

Ales Kot has proven that he knows a thing or two about weaving an action-packed tale across multiple issues, and we're quite eager to see him return to the world of Ian Fleming's famed secret agent sooner rather than later!

James Bond: The Body is everything fans of the 007 franchise could want in a comic, and we're more than a little sad to see one of our most favorite titles of the year finally coming to a close.

No matter how very satisfying it was.

Rating: 5/5 - "This is perhaps one of the most satisfying James Bond books that you will ever read!"

James Bond: The Body #6 brings the mission to a close Wednesday, June 20th.

Amazon Orders Animated Invincible Series

Robert Kirkman's  Invincible is coming to Amazon.

The studio has handed out a straight-to-series order for an hourlong animated take on the recently concluded comic book series of the same name. Like the comic, the eight-episode "adult animated" Amazon series, from Kirkman and Cory Walker, revolves around Mark Grayson, a normal teenager except for the fact that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet. Shortly after his 17th birthday, Mark begins to develop powers of his own and enters into his father’s tutelage. The series is suspenseful, action-filled and emotion-packed, yet builds upon poignant and heartwarming moments of love, friendship and humanity.

Kirkman's Skybound will produce, while Simon Racioppa will serve as showrunner.

Kirkman, Racioppa, David Alpert and Catherine Winder will executive produce.

Launched in 2003, Invincible wrapped its run this February after 144 issues. Kirkman and Walker created the title, with Ryan Ottley boarding with the eighth issue as its central artist.

Invincible is Kirkman's first series under his overall deal with Amazon Studios.

Last April, word also broke that an Invincible movie was in the works at Universal with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg working alongside Kirkman. This project is still alive according to sources.

Supergirl Won't Bring Mon-El Back Next Season

Mon-El won't be back next season.

Last night, the Season 3 finale of Supergirl sent the former prince back to the future, concluding Chris Wood's two season run on the hit DC Entertainment drama.

"The plan for Chris was always to have him on the show for two years," executive producer Robert Rovner revealed to TVLine. "We’ve loved telling Mon-El’s story, as well as the story we’ve told for him and Kara. We hope the fans felt that it was a satisfying conclusion."

Adds executive producer Jessica Queller, "They both have destinies in different times as heroes. What they did was the sort-of Casablanca decision of putting what’s most important to them — which is saving the world — first. It’s a little bittersweet that one destiny is to be a hero in this time and one’s destiny is to run the Legion in another time, but I think they grew a lot from knowing one another. They have respect for one another, and they have a respect for the decisions they respectively made."

Mon-El first appeared in the second season of Supergirl after a mysterious pod crashed in National City. His true identity was revealed after his parents came to Earth to find their son. After the prince of Daxam helped Kara and her friends in defeating his mother from taking over earth, Mon-El went to space, where he was sucked into a wormhole and spit out in the distant future. There, he became a member of the Legion Of Super-Heroes and fell in love with Irma. He would then return to the present to help the Girl Of Steel take on a trio of vile Worldkillers.

However, the character's apparent exit doesn't mean we'll never see him again. Says Robert Rovner, "We love working with Chris, so we’d love to have Mon-El back someday if the story takes us there and if Chris is available."
