Review: Dynamite - Xena #5

Warriors clash next week in the fifth exciting issue of Xena: Warrior Princess

Hailing from Dynamite Entertainment and the creative team of Meredith Finch and Vicente Cifutentes, the new issue sees Xena and Callisto coming face to face in combat for the very first time. Desperately looking to defuse the situation, Xena tries to appeal to her antagonist's sense of goodness, but when it is clear that this will not work, the duo face off in an intense contest of clashing steel and breaking bones.

It is during this time that Gabrielle escapes her bonds and successfully retrieves the keys that will allow her to successfully free the scores of kidnapped woman down in the decks below. However, in her eagerness to help save the day, Gabrielle accidently sets Callisto's ship ablaze, endangering the lives of everyone onboard.

Back atop the deck, Xena learns just how haunted Callisto is regarding the past - just in time for Gabrielle and all the other prisoners to arrive. Realizing that she may be outmatched, the villainous Callisto tales this opportunity to leap from the burning ship and hide amongst the shadows of the Port of Athens. Turning their attention to the situation at hand, Xena and Gabrielle successfully remove all the prisoners from off Callisto's burning ship and decide to help them all get back to their respective homes, but not before Xena welcomes Gabrielle along and sincerely thanks her new friend for teaching the former warlord a valuable lesson in the importance of forgiveness.

However, as they continue on to their next adventure, neither is aware that Callisto is watching from the darkness - swearing to get even with Xena if it's the last thing she does.

The latest issue of Xena: Warrior Princess is crammed full of the signature action and humor that made the original series such a huge hit! We can't recommend this fantastic series enough as it not only does a superb job of filling in many of the gaps from the character's past that weren't explored in the original television series, but is just too damn fun to pass up!

Meredith Finch has delivered an exciting, enjoyable and engaging read for her final issue in the series, and we sincerely hope it won't be too long before she reunites with the Warrior Princess once again! That being said, we eagerly look forward to seeing what Erica Schultz will add to the series in the coming months ahead, and can't wait to join Xena and Gabrielle on their next exciting adventure - which can't get here soon enough!

Rating: 5/5 - "From clashing steel to fun-filled quips, this is the Warrior Princess at her finest!"
