There's a new Geek in Town!
Get ready for the start of something truly special in the form of Geek-Girl #1. Hailing from the creative team of Sam Johnson and Carlos Granda, the book picks up from the previous volume and follows a young girl named Summer James - who has inherited the role of Maine's newest superhero after her friend ends up in a coma following a bout with a rather dastardly villain.
Now, Summer is forced to step into some pretty big shoes, protecting the city with very little experience at hero work of any kind - and dealing with feelings that she was the one responsible for getting her friend laid up in the first place.
Still, despite it all, Summer dons a special pair of tech laden glasses, grabs a costume, gets herself a mentor in the form of fellow Maine-based hero Pitbull, and goes to work as Geek-Girl.
But, it's not going to be an easy ride.
Totally inexperienced, and facing a threat in the form of new villains and tech meant to make a lasting and not too pleasant mark on the city, Summer James is certain to have her work cut out for herself - especially if her friend never comes out of that coma.
Oh, and don't expect too much support from her friends. They're more interested in riding Geek-Girl's coattails into a new world of social media fame and popularity.
Here's hoping Summer James can rise above that whole fish out of water thing and help protect the city from what's coming - because, by the looks of things, it won't be nice.
The debut issue of Geek-Girl is fun, fresh and full of heart. It may not be your typical superhero origin story, but it's just so charming that we couldn't put it down. Johnson and Granda have unleashed something truly unique here, a Spider-Man Meets Mean Girls sort of thing.
And, we're hungry for more!
Rating: 5/5 - "Quirky and charming, the debut issue of Geek-Girl stands out as something truly unique against the literal landslide of superhero comic books."
Geek-Girl #1 is available now from Markosia Enterprises and available at www.geekgirlcomics.com and Comixology.
