Six Feet Under and How I Met Your Mother alum Frances Conroy is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming Joker origin movie from Todd Phillips.
The report comes mere hours after it was reported that prolific actor Robert De Niro had entered negotiations to also star in the highly anticipated DC Film.
Should the deal close, Conroy would portray Penny, mother of the future Clown Prince Of Crime.
Interestingly, this will not be Conroy's first foray into the DC Universe. She's previously voiced Martha Kent, Superman's adoptive mother, in two DC Animated Original Movies.
Phoenix is portraying the iconic DC Comics villain in a movie, that is more moderately budgeted and darker than the studio’s other DC movies. According to the studio, Joker will serve as more of a dramatic character exploration, not a fight-fest.
Plot details are unknown, but the setting is said to be in 1980's Gotham City.
Todd Phillips con-wrote the script with Scott Silver, and production is slated to being this Fall in New York ahead of an October 2019 release date.
