The Icy Trail Continues!
Batman #52 has arrived, and it sees a jury helplessly deadlocked in the grizzly case of Mr. Freeze - all because Mr. Bruce Wayne absolutely refuses to vote guilty.
Freeze demands the charges be dismissed, claiming that the Caped Crusader used excessive force in his capture and thus rendered his arrest illegal. Of course, no one believes that a man with a history of crimes against Gotham could be anything but guilty, so they're more than willing to send him back to prison. Everyone, that is, except for Bruce Wayne.
After all, Bruce is the one man who knows what actually went down that night, and if it is infact the truth, then everything he has ever stood for as The Batman is a lie! Heroes are supposed to help more than hurt, and Bruce is now forced to sit and examine his methods once and for all. Has he crossed the line in his role as the Caped Crusader? And, if so, will he finally pass the cape and cowl of Gotham's Dark Knight over to Dick Grayson once and for all?
The dynamic duo of Tom King and Lee Weeks continue their fascinating look into the relationship between hero and foe, as Bruce Wayne must now relive the horrors of that night, and take a long, hard look at how he's handled things every time that the pair have crossed paths in the past. It's a deep, soul searching narrative of the finest caliber as King and Weeks prove once more why no one does Batman quite like them!
To say we're more than a little eager to see where the trial goes from here is a pretty big understatement! We can't wait to watch the rest of this case unravel, and what changes it will bring about for Gotham's favorite son and his costumed altar ego.
Rating: 5/5 - "A deep, soul searching narrative that explores the fascinating relationship between hero and foe."
