Bryan Singer has entered negotiations to direct the Red Sonja film for Millennium.
Ashley Edward Miller, who also wrote the likes of X-Men: First Class over at Fox, as well as the first Thor movie for Disney and Marvel Studios, has been tapped to write the script.
Created by Robert E. Howard, the character of Red Sonja has appeared in comic books as far back as the 1970's, and new titles featuring the She-Devil With A Sword are still published today.
Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta will produce the new movie alongside Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon. Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Trevor Short will executive produce the project with Scott Karol and Red Sonja rights holder Luke Lieberman.
Millennium is financing and producing the new version of Red Sonja and is hoping to start a franchise and capture the audience that turned out for Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman.
The film has been in development for over a decade, with previous names like Robert Rodríguez attached to develop and direct. In 1985, a Red Sonja film was released starring both Brigitte Nielsen and famed action star Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Apparently, Millennium Media will pay Singer top dollar for the project, which is sais to be a first step in helping rehabilitate the director's image after being fired by Fox after repeatedly not showing up for work on the set of its Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Millennium Media has yet to offer comment on the matter.
