Disney has called upon some of Marvel's Mightiest Heroes in preparation for their upcoming streaming service. The multimedia juggernaut has begun development on a number of limited series set to focus on the likes of Loki, Scarlet Witch and other Marvel Universe characters.
Marvel and Disney have yet to offer comment.
The actors who portrayed these heroes and villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, are expected to play their respective characters in these new streaming shows. Additionally, the budgets of these new shows are said to be rather hefty, rivaling those of a major studio production. The series will include six to eight episodes and Marvel Studios will produce them, while Kevin Fiege is expected to take a hands-on role in development.
Disney is looking to add as much premium content to its streaming service as possible, having already announced a Star Wars series overseen by director Jon Favreau, and a revival of the popular Clone Wars animated series among other projects.
The Marvel series are in early development and writers have yet to be attached. Despite this, these shows could end up being the streaming service’s most ambitious project both in terms of their scope and budget as they look to take a significant bite out of the Netflix viewership.
