Review: DC Comics - The Flash #65

The Epic Conclusion Is Here!

Joshua Williamson has unleashed The Flash #65, the final issue of an SPF crossover event that sees The Scarlet Speedster teaming up with The Dark Knight to investigate a cold case from the Justice League's past - one that will lead them straight to an old face from the future!

Gotham Girl wants nothing more than to fulfill her dead brother's dying wish - to become the greatest superhero the world has ever known! And, she won't let anyone stand in her way!

Will Batman and The Flash be able to stop Gotham Girl before she takes her powers to the maximum and ends up killing herself? Or, one of them?

It's an exciting and epic conclusion with an epilogue you won't see coming!

As fast and fleet footed as its titular speedster, the latest issue of The Flash offers up both a satisfactory conclusion and an exciting stepping stone into what's next! Packed full of action, killer imagery, and loads of over the top superhero chemistry, this is the type of DC Comics crossover that any fan can enjoy to the full!

Big, Bright, Bold and Brash, this was one seriously fun mini event, and we pray that Joshua Williamson will be able to write more adventures centred around The Scarlet Speedster and The Dark Knight in the very near future! We need more of this, and hope it'll be along soon!

Rating: 5/5 - "A crowning achievement in Fun! The Brave And The Bold Are Back!"

It's Good To Be The King!

The Funlands are every kid's dream come true, and it's ruler wants nothing more than to allow every child in need of escape to come to his kingdom and leave their cares behind. However, he also hides a few secrets - one of which is his desire to become a member of the Shazam family.

Yet, it soon becomes clear that Billy and his friends aren't going to just hand over the magic word to King Kid - and this doesn't sit well with the king. But, not as badly as when he and his loyal subjects discover that Billy, Freddy, Mary, Darla and the rest aren't exactly who they claim to be!

When it is revealed that these new visitors are actually adults, King Kid sees this as a betrayal and an act of treason against the Funlands. And so, he sends the member of the Shazam family to all the different corners of the Magiclands - where new challenges await them.

Review: DC Comics - Heroes In Crisis #6

Go Deeper Into The World Of Sanctuary!

For its sixth issue, DC's Heroes In Crisis explores the traumatic events of three patients - Gnarrk, Wally West and Harley Quinn respectively, and the steps they took to deal with them.

It's a deep seated issue, one that further proves even the bravest heroes of them all end up suffering some damage while out in the field. With Wally, it was the fear of being alone without his family, with Gnarrk, it's dealing with the complexity of a new world.

And, with Harley Quinn, it's escaping her past as the Joker's sidekick.

The issue ends with some pretty deep and emotional revelations, but nothing compares to watching as the main plot behind this ingenious book begins coming together for all to see!

Heroes In Crisis continues to be a superbly crafted glimpse into the world of superhero PTSD.

It expertly humanizes the men and women behind the masks.

It's deep. It's troubling. And one of the best DC titles you'll ever read!

Rating: 5/5 - An expertly crafted glimpse into the world of superhero PTSD."

Review: DC Comics - Freedom Fighters #3

Black Condor Takes Flight!

The third exciting issue of Freedom Fighters is here, this one taking fans back to an alternate version of 1963 that sees a victorious Nazi empire executing the original Freedom Fighters.

Fast forward to our present day, and a new breed of hero is preparing to lash out at the villainous occupation from deep within the ocean and high above Chicago, Illinois! Enter the Black Condor, a tortured soul who wishes to hand the Ratzis as much pain and suffering as possible!

With his comrades watching his back, Condor takes to the skies and delivers some serious damage to a detachment of the Nazi air force, all while his companions use a special antenna to gain access to the main Nazi communications network - and flip off their foes in the process.

However, despite this small set back, you'd best believe that the Nazis have something in store for our heroes - something certain to make reviving Uncle Sam that much more difficult!

We love everything about Freedom Fighters!

Robert Venditti and Eddy Barrows have crafted a slick wartime thriller that's sure to stir your heart and inject your veins with a major dose of patriotic adrenaline!

It's endearing. It's emotional. It's downright exciting!

Freedom Fighters is a big win for DC Comics, a shining beacon of hope in a world turned upside down - and proof that anyone can step up and be a hero! This is one of the very best books to hit shelves this year, and we can't wait for more!

Rating: 5/5 - "Basically a big middle finger to all the evil in the world!"

Review: DC Comics - Batman Beyond #29

History Looks To Repeat Itself Once More!

Batman Beyond is back, and Dan Jurgens is preparing to tie up one of his most satisfying arcs with The Final Joke! As the Clown Prince Of Crime prepares to deliver his final punch line by turning Matt into the new Jason Todd, Terry and Dick charge to the rescue.

However, the fiendish Joker remains one step ahead of the heroes. Eventually finding his way to the Bat Cave, Joker squares off against his long time nemesis once again. And, while Bruce may be far from the young man he once was, Joker soon learns his foe can still handle himself...

...and then some. But, while he may be able to hold his own against an aging Bruce, the ravages of time and age are about to catch up with the Joker once and for all!

There's lots to love about this latest issue of Batman Beyond!

It's explosive, and loads of fun! A thrilling race against the clock that's sure to keep readers on their toes straight from the get-go! Add to that some truly wonderful art from the Dynamic Duo of Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund, and you've got one of the single best issues of the week!

Review: DC Comics - Batgirl #32

Cormorant Closes In!

The latest issue of Batgirl arrives on newsstands this week, bringing with it an exciting issue that sees Barbara squaring off against the deadly assassin known as Cormorant one more time.

The issue is heavy on the action, as Babs works with Jason Bard and his security team to protect Alejo from becoming the killer's next target - and, on live TV no less! Clearly, someone is working behind the scenes and is looking to get the denizens of Gotham to sit up and take notice!

The final showdown is slick and brutal, and one that affirms to Barbara that she really can't trust some of those around her - even if they claim otherwise. Granted, Cormorant is a somewhat forgettable foe despite his large visual appeal on the printed page, but Mairghread Scott and her team did a great job of using the character as a device to further tensions between Barbara and Jason - and we're quite eager to see how this relationship will be explored moving forward!

We thoroughly loved this latest Batgirl arc!

Playing out like a tense political thriller, the issue is suave and slick, ramped up to eleven thanks to the expert art courtesy of Norm Rapmund and Paul Pelletier. And, while the main antagonist may be a forgettable one, we can't help but wait to see where things will go from here!

This is easily one of the best books of the week, and we can't recommend it enough!

If you're not reading Batgirl, you're really missing out on something special!

Rating: 4/5 - "Suave and slick! This is a political thriller at its best!"
